Lasik: A real hope for clear vision without glasses

Lasik: A real hope for clear vision without glasses

“Patient age below the 20 is not perfect for lasik because eyes tend to keep changing into early adulthood, so the age between 20 to 40 is effective for lasik In myopia condition (-0.5 to -11) can be easily treated”

The value of vision cannot be evaluated by anything and it cannot be understood till then when we face any complication on our eyes. Myopia, a condition when the objects of the distance seem blurred but close objects look clear and Hypermetropia, a common condition when the nearby objects appear blurred, but the vision is clearer when looking at things further away are the most common eye problem of Bangladeshi people.
To overcome this sight problem specific diopter containing glass is usually prescribed by the ophthalmologist but this solution is not acceptable or effective all-time when a person is an actor, an athlete, a surgeon or a military person, here some change from the inside of eye-ball is required. Contact lens also a solution that relives patient from carrying the weight of glass and frame but it may create a problem when dust enters in the eye and if somehow patient go to sleep wearing lens it can be tight with the corneal layer that could be dangerous and the lens is prone to be blurred.
Hopefully, to resolve this problem, a new treatment is used successfully worldwide that's called LASIK it denotes "Laser-Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis" that means- corneal reshaping by using laser ray. Usually, lasik is most effective in case of myopia.

Indeed, all patients who have sight problem are not liable for this treatment. Patient age below the 20 is not perfect for lasik because eyes tend to keep changing into early adulthood, so the age between 20 to 40 is effective for lasik In myopia condition (-0.5 to -11) can be easily treated. At first a hinged flap is created on the upper layer of cornea by using specific blade or laser ray and then a thin layer of cornea is removed to remodel the cornea by FDA approved laser ray for creating a certain focusing point on retina then close the flap on right position and eye heals itself and results in clear vision instantly without wearing glass.
This procedure can be run by several techniques but mostly by following two ways one of these is a mechanical blade with laser called Mechanical microkeratome and another one is performed only by laser called Femtosecond laser method. There is no medication is inserted to perform this surgery and required about 30 seconds and less than half an hour for the whole procedure and the patient usually gets feedback instantly for this surgery.
From the year 2000, the lasik treatment is available in Bangladesh and the cost varies from 40 thousand to 1 lakh Bangladeshi taka and the exact cost depends on the treatment types which one is applied. Mechanical microkeratome process cost lower than femtosecond laser method. Though the femtosecond laser method required higher cost it provides the effective result and appreciated by ophthalmologists. It may seem that the cost is so higher here in our country but abroad like Australia or Singapore, the cost is three to five folded higher than Bangladesh.
Dry eyes, glare, and other visual disturbances are the most frequently reported complications from the lasik surgery. These problems are regarded as temporary but rarely can be permanent. More severe complications, including significant vision loss, are possible but very uncommon.
Most importantly, before taking lasik surgery one should mustly know that, would his/her sight problem can be successfully treated by lasik or wouldn't. By performing required cornea and retinal test it can find out. Patients should take consultation from an experienced surgeon under renowned public or privet organizations.
