126 poor families get home at Durgapur Ashrayan Prakalpa
RAJSHAHI, Dec 8: "Now the cold weather will not affect us. Water will not pour in through roof during rainy season. We pray to God for Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina as she gave us the homes," said a homeless poor woman Anwara Bibi of No. 5 Jhaluka Union in Durgapur Upazila of the district.
The government has made houses for 126 poor families in the upazila who have only land but no house.
Upazila Nirbahi Office sources said they made a list of the poor families who have only one to 10 decimals of land, under Ashrayan Prakalpa-2 in 2017-18 fiscal year, and sent it to Relief and Rehabilitation Ministry. After final verification, the list was sent back to Durgapur UNO office. Later, the construction of the houses was started. UNO Liton Sarker monitored the work.
Under the project, 18 families each in No. 1 Nawapara Union, Kismat Ganakoir Union, No. 3 Pananagar Union, No. 4 Deluabari Union, No. 5 Jhaluka Union, No. 6 Maria Union, and No. 7 Joynagar Union got the houses.
UNO office sources said Taka 1.26 crore was spent to make the houses. Besides the houses, one toilet was also made for each house.
In this connection, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Belal Hossain said, "We made the list of real poor people and made the houses for them."
Jhaluka Union Parishad Chairman Mozahar Ali said those who got houses in his union are real poor people.
A beneficiary Anwara Begum of Amgachhi Village of the union said, "We never thought that we will get a house. We will remain indebted to the government always."
Sayeda Begum, wife of late Kuran Pramanik of Belgharia Village in No. 3 Pananagar Union said, "We never thought that we will get such a big house. We pray for our PM Sheikh Hasina."
Other beneficiaries of Narkelbaria Village of No. 7 Joynagar Union day labourer Khushbar Ali, Isahaq Ali and Muntaz said, "The past governments never took steps to change the fate of poor people. But, the current government has taken this step of making and providing the houses to us."
In this connection, Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League President freedom fighter Nazrul Islam said the government pledged that nobody will remain homeless. So, the project is being implemented.
UNO Liton Sarker said, "We are trying to provide houses to the real poor people. We have tried to build the houses using best quality construction materials. We monitored the whole work time to time."
