Higher BADC officials visit Shila river in Gafargaon

Higher officials of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) visited the Shila river in Baldi village of Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh on Friday after publication of the news on farmers demonstration demanding construction of dam along the river.

Supervisor and minor irrigation and development project director of Tangail and Kishoreganj district Badrul Alam and assistant engineer Sarwar Jahan went to the area. 

Badrul Alam said that the matter of requirement of a dam was obtained by the Water Development Board. If the river is dredged or sluice gate is set up at the dam, then there will be water in the dry season, he said.

Local farmers and students gathered on the bank and riverbed of Shila River on Wednesday morning, demanding construction of a dam along the river to ensure irrigation for Boro crops in their villages.
