Paltan arson attacker youth identified

An arson attacker who set fire to police vehicle during a clash between BNP activists and police members at Nayapaltan in the capital on Wednesday has been identified.
Mishu Biswas, assistant commissioner of Motijheel division, confirmed this on Thursday morning.
Mishu Biswas said the youth is Shahjalal Khandaker, a member of Paltan Thana unit Chhatra Dal convenor.
Police also identified the youth who was jumping on the car at that time, an activist of Chhatra Dal.
Law enforcers identified 30 people involved in the violence till Wednesday night and arrested 65 men during their drive. But the two youths were not among them.
Earlier on Wednesday noon, a chase and counter-chase ensued between policemen and BNP leaders and activists when they gathered in front of Nayapaltan party office which disrupted vehicular movement centering the party's nomination form sale for the third consecutive day.
BNP men were seen setting fire to a police van and some other vehicles. They also vandalised vehicles and threw brick chips aiming at police.
