Farmers passing busy time farming winter vegetable

LALMONIRHAT, Nov 10: Farmers of the district are passing busy time in cultivating winter vegetable.
They are cultivating different kinds of vegetable including cauliflower, radish, bean, brinjal, amaranth, spinach and bitter gourd.

While visiting different areas, it was found that the farmers are working in the vegetable fields from morning till evening. Many of them are busy preparing and irrigating lands. In different villages of the district, the farmers are also busy farming early varieties of winter vegetable. Many of them have already planted saplings on their lands. Some farmers of Kumrirhat Village under Kamlabari Union in Aditmari Upazila have grown various winter vegetables on high land. The farmers of the village get more profit by selling the vegetables. So, many people are busy cultivating vegetable in advance.

The Fulgach Village under Mogolhat Union in Sadar Upazila is known as 'Sabzi Gram' (vegetable village) because different types of vegetable are cultivated in the village. Farmers of the village said they have been cultivating vegetable for the last ten years. The farmers of Karnapur Village said many people have planted vegetable saplings on their lands. They are now weeding and irrigating their lands, they added. A farmer of Doikhawa area in Hatibandha Upazila planted different vegetables on his two bighas of land. He said that if the weather remains favourable, he will get good yield.

Some farmers of Chaparhat Union in Kaliganj Upazila said they have cultivated cauliflower and other vegetables. They collect the seeds of the vegetables directly from seedbeds. They are expecting good yield. Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension in Lalmonirhat Bidhubhusan Roy said the local farmers are being interested to cultivate different vegetables as they are getting more profit. The local agricultural department is always beside them.
