225 Joypurhat farmers get success in making vermicompost

JOYPURHAT, Nov 10: At least 225 farmers have become successful in making vermicompost in Sadar Upazila of the district.
Upazila Agriculture Department sources said they gave training to the farmers and two rings, 400 pieces of earth worms, Taka 200 honorarium for making vermicompost demonstration plots under the annual development programme of Sadar Upazila Parishad.
The Upazila Parishad gave the training and the inputs to the farmers in t May las. After five months, the farmers are collecting the vermicompost.
A farmer Golapi Khatun, wife of Yusuf Ali of Chakdadra Village in the upazila, is collecting vermicompost for use in vegetable field. She is selling per kilogram earth worm at Taka 10. Many farmers were inspired to produce vermicompost after seeing the success of others.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Serajul Islam said after they provided training and inputs to the farmers, they produced the vermicompost after five months. They were interested after seeing the vermicompost demonstration.
