JCD leader arrested in Barishal
BARISHAL, Nov 10: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday protested the arrest of a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Detective Branch (DB) of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) arrested Mushfiqul Hasan Masum, JCD central committee member and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Road in the city for alleged drug peddling.
Police arrested him while he was returning home after attending the November 7 programme of Oikya Front in Dhaka.
Bilkis Jahan Shirin, BNP central organising secretary (in-charge) of Barishal Division, termed the arrest of JCD leader by DB police political.
DB spokesman denying the claim of BNP leader, said drugs were recovered according to the information collected from the arrested, and it was not a fake case and has no relation with politics.
DB also claimed that Md Sabuj Islam Sahin, another drug peddler, also was arrested with Masum as his associate.
Moazzem Hossain, spokesman of BMP DB, said after interrogating the arrested and according to their information, 232 bottles of phensedyl and 55 litres of liquor, which were hidden under ground, were recovered from two places in Zia Sarak area of the city.
