The poll-time interim government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will start functioning from today (Friday) following the announcement of election schedule on Thursday.
The present government will act as the poll-time government with the representation of elected representatives.
The interim government will discharge its routine works and assist the Election Commission to conduct the upcoming national parliamentary elections in a free and fair manner.
It will bring necessary changes in the administration with the EC's instruction during the election period.
However, the policymakers of the government discarded any possibility of bringing any changes in the polls-time Cabinet.
"The polls-time Cabinet will start functioning from tomorrow (Friday). The present government will act as the interim polls-time government," Finance Minister AMA Muhith, a senior policymaker and advisory council member of Awami League, told reporters on Thursday.
Emerging from the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at Secretariat, Muhith also said, "There will be no new faces in the election-time Cabinet. There is no possibility and no chance."
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the election schedule at 7pm on Thursday in his address to the nation through Bangladesh Television (BTV).
When asked about reorganising the polls-time Cabinet, Muhith said, "I think it is happening. But, with no new faces. It's almost certain, because it is a coalition government. There is nobody who can be picked up. So I don't think there will be any new addition."
About the exit of four technocrat ministers, Muhith said they would stay on until their resignations are accepted. They are still there. Their resignation letters will probably be accepted tomorrow, or perhaps tonight."
Later in another programme, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister said no representatives of the opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront will be included in the polls-time Cabinet.
