Intelligence sources suspects some vested interest groups are active to subvert law and order on or before in the upcoming 11th national elections. They are also trying to create violence ahead of the elections. Their use of cyber war can be a crucial issue during the poll time period, the sources added.
A high official of an intelligence agency told the daily Observer that anti-democratic forces, militant groups and religious fundamentalists may destablise law and order. Meanwhile, most of the vested interest groups across the country have been kept under strict intelligence surveillance, the sources further said.
Police sources said each police station across the country prepared a list of names of Jamaat, Chhatra Shibir, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders at ward, union, upazila and district levels.
The cadres of different political groups were learnt to have been buying smuggled small firearms.
The official preferring anonymity told this correspondent that increasing use of small firearms in different criminal activities, including murder, robbery and extortion, have increased the smuggling of firearms from across the border.
Intelligence sources said syndicates from two sides of the border control such smuggling rings. Despite strong security measures, gunrunners are bringing in the firearms amid rising demand from political cadres for creating violence in the country.
Law enforcement officials recovered illegal small arms from traffickers. The smugglers sell the small firearms and also explosives to terrorist groups in Dhaka, Chittagong and other places across the country. Gangsters prefer small firearms because these are less risky to carry than heavy weapons.
The agencies said such smuggled firearms may also be used by the underground outfits to create instability in the country.
Law enforcement agency sources said several teams have already started to prepare the list of masterminds to arrest them after verification of the list and the collected information.
Though no specific names have been given to
the investigation team, the operation is underway, the sources said.
They have put strict surveillance system after receiving the information from the intelligence agencies.
"Intelligence agencies have taken all precautionary measures and enhanced supervision across the country so that any attempt to create anarchy could be foiled instantly," sources added.
