Quota reformists demonstrate on DU campus, demand gazette
Quota reformists staged a demonstration on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Wednesday, demanding publication of gazette notification on quota reform in government jobs as soon as possible.
They also pressed for the three other demands and vowed to continue their agitation until the demands were met. The demands are withdrawal of 'false' cases against some quota reformists, exemplary punishment to those who attacked them and reforming the quota system in government jobs in light of their five-point demand.
They took out a procession from Science Faculty Library premises at around 10:30am and paraded the different points on the campus. The procession ended in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture near the TSC where the quota reformists held a rally.
Addressing the rally, Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council Joint Convener Nurul Huq said, "We did not want abolition of quota system, we demanded reform. The Prime Minister herself announced abolition of quota system in the Parliament."
If the PM wants, she can abolish the quota system but if the government wants to reform, it should be done in light of the five-point demand placed by quota reformists, he added.
