AL issues show-cause notices on 14 leaders for internal feud
Awami League has taken a tough line with internal feud by issuing show-cause notices on 14 leaders including a central Organising Secretary and three lawmakers. At a press conference, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said, "As per the decision of the Awami League Central Working Committee, we have issued show-cause notices on those who declared sitting MPs persona non grata. We have used harsh words in those notices."
"On the other hand, we have also sought explanations from those leaders against whom the party men vented their anger."
The Awami League General Secretary said, "They have to respond to the show-cause notice within 15 days."
The show-cause notices signed by Obaidul Quader were sent through courier service on Monday.
Awami League Organising Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim told The Daily Observer, "The Central Awami League has show-caused three leaders over the Sylhet city corporation election. They are Central Organising Secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj, Sylhet City General Secretary Asad Uddin Ahmed and Organising Secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel."
The party also sought explanation from Sylhet City Awami League President Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran as to why he had failed to win faith of others.
About the show-cause notice Sylhet City General Secretary Asad Uddin Ahmed told this correspondent, "I received the show-cause notice from central AL on Tuesday evening and I have taken it positively."
Bahauddin Nasim said the party issued show-cause notice on Barguna's three leaders-Barguna District Awami League General Secretary Jahangir Kabir, Organising Secretary Golam Sarwar Tipu and Zila Parishad Chairman Delowar Hossain for their conflict with Barguna-1 lawmaker and district AL President Advocate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu.
On the other hand, Dhirendra Debnath was asked to explain why the infighting was created, the Awami League Organising Secretary said.
According to Awami League central leaders, in Dinajpur, show-cause notice was issued on two party leaders-Birganj Upazila President Zakaria Zaka and Dinajpur District Law Secretary Advocate Hamidul Islam for declaring Dinajpur-1 constituency lawmaker Monoranjan Shil Gopal persona non granta in his constituency. At the same time, Gopal has to explain why the local party men went against him.
In Rajshahi, Abdul Wadud Dara, lawmaker of Rajshahi-5 constituency, was asked to explain why local party leaders and activists went against him. Show-cause notices were issued on Rajshahi City General Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad and Organising Secretary Ahsanul Haque Masum for internal feud.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader at the press conference at his Secretariat office said, BNP wants to form a 'nationalist communal' alliance in the name of national unity ahead of the national polls. Pointing at BNP, he said, how a party could forge a national unity which has no unity in their party. On the foreign diplomats' role in domestic politics, Quader said the government hoped that the diplomats would not make any efforts that would harm the country's sovereignty.
