The power outage affected ongoing session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday for more than three hours.
As a result the session of Jatiya Sangsad was adjourned hurriedly until 5pm on Wednesday as maximum rooms of the parliament building were in dark for the outage during session on Tuesday. The outage struck the building at 4.45pm and electricity was restored to the parliament at 7.15pm. The day business of parliament was scheduled to begin at 5pm over by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury but it began 10 minute after scheduled

time. With back-up generators the JS authority tried to keep the session alive before it was adjourned by the Deputy Speaker for the day. Deputy speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, who was in the chair at that time, suspended the remaining businesses of the day at 6:15 pm. The deputy speaker told reporters that the day's business was adjourned due to power disruption.

He said Meghnaghat Power Plant supplies the electricity to the parliament complex. But the power supply stopped due to the failure in Meghnaghat Power Plant.  'We have adjourned the day's business running the sitting with the power support from a generator for an hour,' he said.
