2 suspected drug dealers killed in gunfight
Two suspected drug dealers were killed in separate incidents of gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Sadar upazila of Feni on Tuesday midnight and early Wednesday.
With this, the number of deaths stood at 223 across the country since May 12.
In Sultanpur area, a listed drug trader was killed during a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) around 11.30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sumon alias Lal Sumon, 32, a resident of Kataltala village in the upazila.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Rab-7 conducted a drive in Sultanpur area around 11.30 pm. Sensing their presence, a gang opened fire on them forcing the elite force to fire back, said Shafayat Jamil, commanding officer of Rab-7.
After the gunfight, Rab members rescued bullet-hit Sumon and rushed him to Feni Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Nazmul Hasan, resident medical officer of Feni Sadar Hospital, said the Rab members brought Sumon dead.
Four thousands Yaba tablets, bullets and three fire arms were recovered from the spot.
In a separate incident of gunfight in Lemua area, another drug dealer Md Kabir Hussain, 35, hailed from Chandpur district was killed early Wednesday.
Acting on secret information, a Rab team conducted a drive in the area, and a gunfight occurred with the gang of drug traders, leaving Kabir dead, said Rab official Shafayat Jamil.
Rab also seized 1,80,000 Yaba tablets, a firearm and bullets from the spot.
