Businesswoman Faria gets bail
Faria Mahjabin, an entrepreneur, who was arrested on charge of spreading rumour on social media to instigate the recent student movement for road safety, was granted bail by a Dhaka court.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Aminul Haque passed the order on Tuesday.
Mahjabin's lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua and Zahid Iqbal moved her bail prayer in the court.
Faria Mahjabin, wife of Mohammad Riasat, runs a coffee shop, Nerdy Bean Coffee House, at Dhanmondi in the capital, was picked up by a team of RAB-2 from her house in Hazaribagh on August 16.
The following day, she was shown arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for "spreading rumours and sharing provocative posts" on social media over the recent student protest.
She was put on a three-day remand for interrogation in the case after she was produced before it the same day.
On August 20, Mahjabin confessed to the allegations against her before a magistrate on completion of her remand. She studied at the North Western University in Khulna.
