The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Tuesday sentenced four Moulvibazar war criminals to death for committing crimes against humanity in Rajnagar upazila during the Liberation War of 1971.
A three-member tribunal, led by Justice Shahinur Islam, pronounced the verdict in presence of convict Akmal Ali Talukdar, 79.
But three other convicts Abdur Nur Talukdar alias Lal Miah, Anis Miah and Abdul Mosabbir Miah remained absconding.
Two allegations brought against them were proved. The convicts awarded death in one case and life term imprisonment unto death in another case.
All of them were accused of committing genocide, murder, abduction and torture between May 7 to November 24 during the 1971 Liberation War carried out in Panchgaon and Paschimbhag villages in Rajnagar upazila.
Earlier on May 7, 2017, the tribunal framed charges against them.
On November 26, 2015, the ICT issued arrest warrants against the four war crimes suspects. Police arrested Akmal Ali on that day from his village home.
