New Organogram Approved
Food Safety Authority to hire 365 staff

The government has approved an organogram of 365 persons for the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) to run the regulatory body, which is working to ensure safe food for the country's people with only 16 officers and employees now.
According to BFSA officials, the authority has got the approval from the Food Ministry after getting clearance of the Public Administration Ministry and the Finance Division under the Finance Ministry.
However, the recruitment process has not yet started as preparation of a 'services and recruitment rules' for the authority has not yet completed. As soon as the 'service rules' is prepared, the authority will start recruiting the officials and employees, the officials said.
When contacted, BFSA Chairman Md. Mafuzul Haque, also an additional secretary of the administration, told this correspondent that they are preparing the draft of the 'services and recruitment rules' for the authority. "It's under process. Hopefully, the authority will be able to complete the draft soon. As soon as the draft is prepared, it would be forwarded to the higher authority for its approval. Once the approval is received, the manpower will be recruited," he added.
According to the BFSA, the authority is functioning with only 16 officers. Of them, a chairman, four members and five deputy secretary level officers. The rests are lower level officials and employees. In addition, more than 100 sanitary inspectors were given the charge as field officer of the BFSA to assist the authority to run its works.
A number of officials of the development partners and donors are also working with the authority to build its capacity to work for ensuring safe food for the country's people.
According to BFSA source, the authority will set up its offices at divisional and district level. The newly employed officials and employees will be posted to those offices there along with its headquarters.
At present, the BFSA authority is working to collect samples of various food items from different markets and shops and testing its scientific affects from the laboratories. It is also creating public awareness through publishing the test reports as a part of campaign.
It also conducted several drives against adulterated foods and food items along with other authorities due to lack of manpower. After the recruitment of manpower, it will work separately.
