Echoing with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed the Minister said: "It will also be acceptable to producers as we have to consider their interest," he said at a function on the National Food Safety Day at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. He said: "Commerce Minister was right when he said rice price should be Tk40 per kilogramme. I think it is tolerable for all people."
There is no shortage of food in the country as the government has stocked enough food in the warehouses, he assured.
"There is nothing to be worried about food as the government has already imported extra food to meet the growing demand. There is a buffer stock of food in the country," he added.
The Finance Minister said Bangladesh had attained self-sufficiency in food production, as the country is now capable of exporting rice.
"Wheat production is less than what we need. If we can properly utilize food diversification, then we can become self-sufficient in food production," he added.
Muhith said all would have to be more cautious about safety of food as there are some enemies of food like piranha fish, a cannibal fish of Brazil.
Among others, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury and Food Minister M Qamrul Islam attended the function.
Secretary In-Charge of Food Ministry Shahabuddin Ahmed presided over the function while Chairman of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque gave the welcome speech.
