National Social Services Day-2018 was observed in all the districts of the country on Tuesday with a call to provide state services to the doorsteps of the underprivileged people of the society.
GAIBANDHA: Marking the day, district administration and the Department of Social Services (DSS) office jointly organised different programmes.
In the morning, a colourful rally led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of ZSA.
DC Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the meeting as chief guest and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, Additional Police Super (Headquarters) M. Asaduzzaman and Member of Jatiya Samaj Kalyan Parishad Professor Mazharul Mannan were present at the event as special guests.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Office Secretary of district Awami League AKM Saiful Alam, Shaghata Upazila Social Services Officer Abu Sufian, Coordinator of SKS Foundation Ashraful Alam and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.
Town Social Services Officer Mizanur Rahman Mollick was the moderator.
The speakers, in their speech, said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing many welfare projects for the underprivileged people of the society aimed at changing their socio-economic condition and building a happy and prosperous country.
DC Gautam Chandra Pal, in his speech, urged the officials and the employees of the department to be more serious and punctual in discharging their duties and reaching their services to people easily.
Later, a cultural function was also held at ZSA auditorium.
A large number of people including district and upazila level officials, NGO activists, social workers and journalists took part in the programmes.
KURIGRAM: To mark the day, a colourful rally was brought out from Independence Square in the morning, which paraded the main roads of the town.
Later, a meeting was held at Municipal Town Hall. District Social Services Officer SM Jobayedul Islam presided over the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by DC Abu Saleh Md Ferdous Khan, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Md Aminul Islam, Police Super (Acting) Menhazul Islam, and disabled leader Asaduzzaman.
Later, a cultural function was held.  
LAXMIPUR: To mark the day, a colourful rally was brought out from Sadar Upazila Parishad premises in the morning and after parading the main roads, ended on District Collectorate premises.
Later, a discussion meeting organised by DSS was held at DC's conference room where DC Homaira Begum was chief guest.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sheikh Murshidul Islam presided over the meeting while CS Dr Mostofa Khaled Ahmed and ASP (Circle) Khandaker Golam Shahnewaz were present as special guests.
It was addressed, among others, by DD of DSS Nazrul Islam Patwary, Sadar Upazila Social Services Officer Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Raipur Upazila Social Services Officer MM Jubayer, Ruhul Amin Master, freedom fighter Joynal Abedin, and Asaduzzaman Chowdhury.
After the meeting, the guests distributed Tk 18.50 lakh to 37 patients of different diseases including kidney, liver and paralysis.
At that time, other officials of DSS and NGOs were also present.       
MEHERPUR: To mark the day, District Administration and DSS organised different programmes.
A colourful rally led by ADC Sheikh Farid Ahmed was brought out from Shilpakala Academy premises and after parading the main roads of the town, ended on DC office compound.  
After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium with DD of DSS Delwar Hossain in the chair.  
DC Porimal Shingh attended the meeting as chief guest while DD of Local Government at DC's office Khairul Hasan was present as special guest.
Social Service Officers Mahzabeen Cammy and Mamun Hossain moderated the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering Abdul Gaffar Mollah, General Secretary (GS) of Meherpur Press Club Rafiqul Alam, Representative of Save the Children Dr. Romen Das, Advisor of district Awami League Hazi Ashkar Ali, President of Meherpur NGO Samity Mosharraf Hossain, BRAC's district representative Mosharef Hossain and beneficiary Anwarul Hossain.
Cross section of people along with the government officials joined the rally and the meeting.
PATUAKHALI: To mark the day, a colourful rally organised by Kalapara Upazila Administration and Upazila DSS was brought out in the upazila town at 9:10am, and after parading the main roads ended at upazila parishad auditorium.
Later, a meeting was held at the same place. Upazila Social Services Officer Montasir Billah presided over the meeting while Upazila Chairman A. Motaleb Talukder was present as chief guest and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Tanvir Rahman and Upazila Vice-Chairman Md Golam Mostofa were present as special guests.   
PIROJPUR: On the occasion, DSS brought out a colourful rally from central Shaheed Minar, and after parading the main roads of the town, it ended on the Shilpakala Academy premises.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the same place. DD of DSS Al-Mamun Talukder presided over the meeting while DC Md. Khairul Alam Sheikh attended the meeting as chief guest and GS of district Awami League Advocate MA Hakim Hawlader attended as special guest.
Among others, ADC Ahmed Moinul Hasan, women leader Shahida Barek, journalist Gautam Chowdhury, Assistant Director of DSS Md. Shahidul Islam, its Probation Officer and NGO activist Moninul Ahsan also spoke on the occasion.
RAJBARI: To mark the day, a meeting was held at DC office conference room with DD of DSS Rubyet Mohammad Ferdaus in the chair where DC Md Shawkat Ali was chief guest.
Among others, Rajbari Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr Mejbahul Haque, Sadar Upazila Social Services Officer BM Asaduzzaman, and NGO Executive Lutfor Rahman were also present.
