'Robber' killed in Comilla 'gunfight'

A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with detectives in  Chandina upazila of Comilla district early Sunday.

Deceased Shamim, 30, son of Sadequr Rahman, was a resident of Kashimpur village in the upazila, district Detective Branch (DB) officer in-charge Manzurul Alam said.

On secret information that a gang was trying to commit robbery in Chhoyghoria Bridge area, a team of detectives conducted a drive in the area around 2:30am, he said.

Sensing presence of the team, the robber gang opened fire on detectives, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gun-battle.

The law enforcers and robbers exchanged fire, leaving Shamim dead on the spot, the OC added. 

The body was, later, sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue.
