National Coastal Day observed in Laxmipur

Laxmipur: National Coastal Day was observed in the district for the first time on Sunday aiming to protect country's coastal area
and to develop the lifestyle of the people living there.

The day was observed at 34 places in 32 upazilas of 15 coastal districts with various programmes marking a cyclonic storm that ravaged the southern coasts of the then East Pakistan in 1970.

The disaster claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and countless cattleheads.

Responding to the call of Coastal Day Implementation Committee, about 100 organisations took part in different programmes.

Non-government organisation Coastal Bangladesh, Coastal Journalist Forum of Bangladesh and Alokjatra Dal have initiated the observance of the day.
