‘Top terror’ shot dead at Jessore jail gate after release

The alleged ringleader of notorious terror group ‘Hemayet Bahini’ was shot to death by unidentified assailants at Jessore Central Jail gate in the district town on Monday evening soon after his release on bail. 

The deceased was identified as Hemayet Hossain, 38, son of Jinnat Hossain of Mondalgati in the suburb of the district town of jessore. He was the alleged kingpin of ‘Hemayet Bahini’, a terror group named after his name. 

Sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station Nahiyan said Hemayet was released from jail on bail in the evening in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act. 

As soon as he stepped out of the jail gate, three miscreants in two motorcycles appeared on the scene around 7:45pm and shot Hemayet thrice, leaving him injured. 

He was taken to Jessore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. 

The attackers managed to flee the scene after the incident, the SI added. 

High police and local administration officials visited the spot.
