It was a very special recognition that brought Ashim Chandro Roy from Kolkata, Moni Begum from Kulaura of Moulabhibazar and Keshob Roy from Jaldhaka of Nilphamari at Krishibid Institution in Dhaka, on June 5 afternoon, recently. A photojournalist at Prothom Alo, Sabina Yasmin Laboni came despite being sick and ignoring doctor's advice. Only Brishti Shikdar, who got admitted in a top-notch university in the world, was absent at the KIB auditorium, as she was to attend her class at MIT, USA. Among the youth leaders, there were emerging cricketer Mehedi Hasan Miraz, game developer Masha Mostakim, co-founder of 10 minute school Ayman Sadiq, wedding photographer Jobaer Hossain Shuvo and young entrepreneur Tahmina Shoili.
Ten youth leaders shining in their own ways in 10 different sectors were recognized by youth organization Campus2Career and received "Youth Award 2016". After receiving the award, all of them expressed their joy and said this recognition would inspire them to move ahead. Under-19 team's Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who makes the opposition team sweat in the field, himself was sweating when he was invited to give a speech after getting the award. With a big smile in his face, he barely managed to control his excitement and remarked, "I'm overwhelmed. I can't describe in words how happy I am."
Promising cartoonist, hailed from Dinajpur, Ashim Chandra Roy is studying in Rabindrabharati Bishwabiddaloy, India now. With great humility he said, "I'm learning, I'm trying to get better at what I do. I want to take this form of cartoon, caricature, to a world class level."
Masha Mustakim, whose team has developed a liberation war based game "Heroes of 71," said, "In future I would like to developed more games themed on liberation war, so that the kids can learn the true history in a fun way while playing games."
Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, handed over crests and certificates to each of the 10 awardees as chief guest of the ceremony. He concluded the event saying, "Students have to explore other activities beyond pursuing their studies, and develop their expertise in extra-curricular activities. These young leaders are showing the way. My heartiest congratulations to them and I wish their success in future."
Robaet Ferdous, Professor of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University, moderated the award giving ceremony. Why Campous2Career is taking this initiative to honour young leaders was explained by Anjali Sarker, Executive Editor of Campus2Career.
The ceremony was presided over by Chief Information Commissioner, Prof. Golam Rahman, who also served as the chairperson of the Jury Board that selected the awardees. Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury, member of the permanent committee related to youth and sports at the National Parliament, was present as special guest. She remarked, "Our youth are showing exemplary success in several sectors and proving their worth. We need to encourage them. They are the future of Bangladesh."
