Suspected dacoit killed in Narail 'gunfight'

An alleged dacoit was killed during a 'gunfight' with police in Lohagara upazila of Narail early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as--Rakib, 30, son of Mokles Hossain.

Lohagara Police Station OC Biplob Kumar Saha said, on secret information that a gang of dacoits were taking preparation to commit robbery at Dighalia Dokkhinpara village, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive there around 2:30am.

Sensing presence of the team, the gang members opened fire to the police forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rakib injured with bullets.

He was rushed to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Rakib dead.

However, other associates of the dacoit gang managed to flee the scene.

Rakib was wanted in 12 cases, the OC added.
