Fatema-Tuz-Zohra enthralls Comilla audience

Country's eminent Nazrul artiste Fatema-tuz-Zohra enthralled the audience of Comilla Town Hall at the night of May 27. She was performing on the closing day of a three-day festival arranged to celebrate Kazi Nazrul Islam's 117th birth anniversary. Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Comilla Distrcit Administration jointly organised the festival in Comilla.
The music lovers of Comilla were missing classical cultural programmes for quite a long time. That is why Comilla District Administration organised the programme. The day's programe began with a solo Nazrul song "Mor ghum ghorey elo monohor" sang by Prottoy, brilliant boy who has been adjudged the best of modern singers at country level this year.
Fatema began her performance at 8:45pm with the song "Pashaney Bhangaley Ghum". Then Fatema-Tuz-Zohra rendered a Kheyal by Nazrul. She continued with the Nazrul's other famous folk songs like Bashanta Mukhari Rag and Shabar Kotha koiley ebar nijer kotha kow. She also presented one after-another songs including Mor prothom Moner Mulul, Bon Kuntaley Elaye, Dur Dipo Bashini, Esho Prea Mon Rabgaye, Mor Prea Hobey Esho Rani Debo Khopaye Tarar Ful etc.
Zohra not only sang ordinary songs but also presented Islami gazals like Bazlo Kerey Bhorer Shanai, A Kon Madhur Sharab Diley Al Arabi Saki, Mosjeder Oi Pashey Amar Kabor Dio Bhai. She also performed a number of shama sangeet like "Mohakaler Koley Eshe Gouri Holo."
A total of 15 songs were intoned by the artist. However, the audience requested to listen to more songs. Zia Hossain and Nazrul Islam accompanied the artist on tabala and Key board respectively.
The three-day festival rounded off after the presentation of the drama "Sheulimala" written by Kazi Nazrul Islam. The artists of Janantik Nattaya Shampropday took part in different rolls of the play.
Earlier, a discussion was held at the premises of the city's Town Hall with Salauddin Mahmud, Director General of BARD presiding over it. Professor Shanti Ranjan Bhowmik delivered the Nazrul memorial speech. Additional Secretary for Ministry of Cultural Affairs Manjurur Rahman was present as chief guest while Comilla Deputy Commissioner Hasanuzzman Kollol was among those present as special guests.
The speakers including the chief guest said that the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam upheld the spirit of the Bangalees through his versatile works.
Quoting from some poems of the National Poet, Abdul Manjurur Rahman said Nazrul spoke against the discrimination against women in a society 100 years back.
