Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Saturday said the news item relating to Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Mendi N Safadi was nothing but a cooked up drama by BNP and his party will protest against the recent news of BBC Bangla service.
"The news item relating to recent talks between Sajeeb Wazed Joy and the Israeli ruling Likud Party member Mendi N Safadi was nothing but a fabricated story. Awami League (AL) will dispatch a rejoinder on the news item to BBC Bangla service," he said.
Hanif disclosed this at a press conference at the political office of AL President Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city.
The AL joint general secretary said, "Staying in London, BNP leaders cooked up the drama relating to talks between Joy and Safadi. The talks-drama was brewed up to shift people's attention to other direction following leakage of their deep conspiracy to oust the government after arrest of BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury. By this time, it's proved that BNP along with Israel were involved in a deep conspiracy."
"I have watched the BBC interview, which was taken by BNP's London-resident leader Jacob Milton. In the interview, Milton intentionally asked Safadi whether he had talks earlier with anybody of Bangladesh. Safadi replied in the affirmative. It could easily be understood from such a motivated query of him that it was a cooked up drama," he added.
Turning to the fifth phase polls to the Union Parishad (UP), Hanif said apart from a few isolated incidents, the polls were free and fair but BNP took part in the UP polls to make it controversial.
AL leader Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dublew, Afzal Hossain, Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul, SM Kamal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, among others, were present.
