BD relief team leaves for Sri Lanka

The government has sent a team of Bangladesh Armed Forces Division to Sri Lanka with a view to giving humanitarian support to the flood and landslide affected people in that island country.
The 19-member support team left Dhaka by a C-130 transport aircraft along with nine tonnes of relief support including water purification sets, medicine, tents and electricity generators, said a press release of ISPR on Friday.
High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh Yasoja Gunasekera was present when the aircraft departed and she expressed her gratitude and thanks to Bangladesh government for this emergency support.
According UK-based newspaper The Guardian, at least 37 people were reportedly killed due to incessant rainfall and landslide in the central hilly region of Sri Lanka till mid-May.
