Technical stdnts to be raised to 20pc by 2020: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the government has set a mission to raise the rate of technical and vocational education students to 20 percent by 2020 to turn the country's people into human resources.
"In 2008, the percentage of enrollment in technical education was around one percent. Now the enrollment increased to 13 percent. Government of Bangladesh has set a mission of increasing the enrollment in the technical education to 20 percent by the year 2020 to achieve the vision 2021," he said.
Nurul Islam Nahid was addressing as chief guest at the launching ceremony of "Skill and Training Enhancement Project (STEP)" funded by the additional financing of US$ 100 million from the World Bank at a city hotel on Sunday.
Senior Secretary at the Public Administration Ministry Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Secretary in-charge of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Begum Shamsun Nahar and World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal Qimiao Fan spoke as special guests on the occasion.
