Golam Rabbani Helal, one of the three president candidates in the upcoming General Election of Bangladesh Football Federation is going to announce support to Salahuddin for the post at Salahuddin's residence in Gulshan today (Wednesday) as confirmed by Salahuddin panel's election committee member secretary Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin on Tuesday.
Helal who is a former footballer and a former General Secretary of the Federation is narrowing down the competition for the BFF president post into two contenders.
Earlier, a total of four candidates including Kazi Salahuddin, Narul Islam Nuru, Golam Rabbani Helal and Kamrul ashraf Khan Poton submitted nomination papers for the post. Afterwards, Narul Islam gave support to save-football panel's Poton.
However, Helal was saying from the very beginning that he did not believe Poton a worthy person for the BFF president post.
Earlier he said the delegates, "I'll ask anyone whoever likes me to give vote for me. But If you do not then give vote to Salahuddin." That way it was very clear that the fellow of Salahuddin was indirectly supporting the football legend.
The good relationship between Salahuddin and Helal is not a new thing. Hela along with Salahuddin and two other footballers was sent to jail along on September 21, 1982 following violence between the madcap supporters of Abahani and Mohammedan during a match. The then military regime issued warrant against 12 booters and the four Abahani players were kept behind the bar for 17 days under special power act in Rajshahi and Jessore.
