JESSORE, Apr 13: Police recovered bodies of two Shibir men from the bank of a pond near Baharampur cremation ground under Hoibatpur union in Sadar upazila here on Wednesday morning.
The bodies were identified as Abu Jar Gifari, son of Nur Islam of Chapali village under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah district and a 3rd year honours student of Bangla Department at Jessore Government MM College and also president of Shibir's Kaliganj Municipality unit under Jhenidah district; and Shamim Mahmud, son of Ruhul Amin of the same upazila and district and a 2nd year honours student of Management Department at Jhenidah Government KC College, and also an activist of Shibir.
Locals said they saw the body lying on the said area in the morning and informed police. Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station Ilias Hossen said they recovered two unidentified bodies. But, later their respective relatives came to the police station and confirmed their identities, locals said.
Ruhul Amin said some masked plainclothes people giving identities as Detective Branch (DB) of police took his son Shamim from Kailganj on March 24 last.
On the other hand, Nur Islam said some people giving identities as DB policemen took his son on March 18 last.
Relatives of both the victims filed general diaries and arranged press conferences following the missing of their sons.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station Anwar Hossen said he had heard that two bodies were found, but since the incident happened in Jessore so he could not know about the details.
