Three killed in lightning in three districts

At least three persons including a freedom fighter were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in three districts - Dinajpur, Kishoreganj and Mymensingh on Monday.
MYMENSINGH: A freedom fighter was killed in a lightning strike at Balipara union under Trishal upazila here on Monday morning.
He was identified as Ataur Rahman, 65, commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad, Balipara union unit.
Quoting family members and locals, Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station said, Ataur Rahman was working at his field at 7am when lightning struck him, leaving him killed on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body. He was buried at his family graveyard with state honour after Asr prayers, the OC added.
DINAJPUR: An old man was killed in a lightning strike at Boroil village under Sadar upazila here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin, 60, of the village.
Dinajpur Police Control Room sources said Joynal Abedin was working in his field at 8am when a streak of lightning struck him and he was seriously injured.
He was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where on duty doctor declared him dead.
The body was handed over to family members after an autopsy at the hospital.
An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with Kotwali Police Station.
KISHOREGANJ: A boy was killed in a lightning strike at Suterpara village under Karimganj upazila here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Faruk Mia, 13, son of Kabir Uddin of the village.
The body was going to the Dhanu River to catch fish when lightning struck him and he died on the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station Dipak Majumder confirmed the incident.
In another incident of lightning, three students of Awaliapara A. B. Nurjahan High School under Nikli upazila were injured. They are: Navana 13, and Shamima, 15, daughters of Aminul Islam and Turki Akter, 14, daughter of Aftab Uddin of Nowapara village under Nikli Upazila.
