A Comilla court has ordered the exhumation of Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu’s body for a fresh post-mortem to collect DNA sample and for proper investigation.

Comilla's Additional Judicial Magistrate Joynab Begum issued the order on Monday following a prayer by the Detective Branch of Police.

OC AKM Monjurul Alam of the Comilla DB told media that the court had ordered the exhumation to be supervised by an executive magistrate.

Sohagi Jahan Tonu, also a member of Victoria College Theatre, was  found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside the Comilla Cantonment area in the night of March 20. Her head was smashed, and she had allegedly been raped.

The killing of Tonu sparked strong protest across the country.
