Road accidents claim lives of 8 in 4 districts

At least eight people were killed and several others were injured in different road accidents in four districts including Dhaka on Friday.
Of the deceased, one person was killed in Dhaka, two in Comilla, two in Habiganj and three in Cox's bazar.
A man was killed after being run over by a private car that mounted a footpath at capital Dhaka's Shahjahanpur. Another person was injured in the accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday near Kamalapur Inland Container Depot, said Shahjahanpur police Sub-Inspector Oliur Rahman.
He said the driver of the car lost control over the steering, letting the vehicle veer onto the footpath and knock the two men. They were identified as Nazmul Haque and 'Sumon'.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 6am, but Nazmul died while undergoing treatment there, SI Rahman told this correspondent.
 Asked whether the two were sleeping on the footpath, the SI said more would be known once Sumon regains consciousness.
Our Comilla, Correspondent said, a truck driver and a helper were killed as the gas cylinder of their vehicle exploded at Kutumbapur area on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chandina upazila on Friday noon.
The deceased were identified as Shohel, 65, of Sayedpur village, and Polash, 28, of Dharmapur village in Adarsha Sadar upazila of the district.
In-charge of Iliotganj Highway Police Camp sub-inspector (SI) Quazi Maniruzzaman said the accident occurred when a sand-loaded truck was on its way to Comilla. When the vehicle reached Kutumbapur area, one of its front wheels went loose and its driver lost control over the steering. The vehicle rammed into a covered van causing the gas cylinder to explode. The driver and helper of the truck died on the spot. Later, police recovered the bodies and sent those to a hospital for autopsy.
Our Habiganj' correspondent added that  a head-on collision between two buses left one of the vehicles driver and his assistant dead and at least 10 others injured in  Bahubal Upazila of Habiganj.
Bahubal police OC Mosharraf Hossain said the accident occurred on Friday morning near Karangi Bridge.
The deceased driver was Hafiz Mia and assistant was Rajab Ali of Nabiganj-bound bus.
They died on the spot when their vehicle collided with a Dhaka-bound bus, OC Hossain said, quoting witnesses.
Of the injured, five were sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital and the others to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex.
Our Cox's Bazar correspondent added:   Three people were killed and five others were injured after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a truck faced head-on collision at Chaillatali Bazar on Gorakghata-Kalamarchara road in Maheshkhali upazila on the same day at around 3pm.
The deceased were identified as Nur Mohammad, 35, son of Mohammed Islam of Hoanak,  Nurul Alam, 32, son of Mohammad Ali of Adharghona village and Razia Bagum.
Officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station Babul Chandra Banik said three of the injured were sent to Maheshkhali Upazila Health Complex, and bodies of the deceased to the same hospital morgue for autopsy.
