Popular Bangladeshi film actress Parveen Sultana Diti passed away at the evening of March 20 at a local hospital in the city after a long battle with brain cancer. She was 51. She left a daughter, Lamia Chowdhury, and a son, Shafayet Chowdhury . Her husband actor Sohel Chowdhury, had died from gun shots in 1998.
On July 29 last year, Diti underwent her first brain surgery and she was kept on life support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Madras Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology (MIOT) hospital in India. On September 20, she returned to Dhaka and a month later was admitted to the Square Hospital, Dhanmondi when she fell sick again.
Parveen Sultana Diti was born at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district on March 31 in 1965. She won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1987 for her performance in Shwami Stri.
Some of her notable films are Hiramoti, Dui Jibon, Vai Bondhu, Uchila, Khuner Bodla, Ajker Hanggama, Sesh Upohar, Chorom Aghat, Shami Estiri, Oporadhi, Kaliya, Kal Shokale, Megher Kole Rod, Akash Choya Bhalobasha and others.
