COMILLA, Mar 12: New body of Comilla Bar Association was formed. In this connection, an election was held on Thursday.
BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikyo Parishad (JAOP) panel got majority in the election.
JAOP candidate Safiqul Alam won the post of president by getting 399 votes. His nearest rival AL-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Shamannay Parishad candidate Abul Hashem Khan got 378 votes.
Meanwhile, JAOP candidate Mafizul Islam was elected general secretary, bagging 410 votes. His nearest rival AL-backed Sahidul Haque Sayeed got 352 votes.
The other elected from JAOP are: Abu Nasor Abdul Kader Bhuiyan (vice president), Sultan Ahmed (assistant general secretary), Monirul Islam (treasurer), Abu Musa Bhuiyan (library secretary), and Al-Mahmud Sagor (enrolment secretary).
The other members are: Noor Jahan Khan, Shukur Ali, Azharul Islam, Motahar Hossain, Fazlur Rahman and Tariqul Islam.
The office bearers from AL-backed panel are: Muslim Mia (senior vice president), Jahangir Alam (recreation secretary), Khandaker Maruf (assistant enrolment secretary), and Kulsum Akhter (member).
Election Commissioner Advocate Amzad Hossain announced the results at 11:30am on Friday.
