May I know the admission requirements of a top ranked US university for my graduate programme?
Dear Sir, I am a student of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). Recently, I have graduated from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. I am very much interested to go to the United States. May I know the admission requirements of a top ranked US university for my graduate programme?
At present, in the United States of America (USA), there are more than 7 hundred public universities and two thousand private universities. A huge demand of international students prevails in the US universities for graduate programme. Here, I am going to tell the requirements for your subject for graduate programme at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). According to the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2015-2016, UCLA ranked at the 16th position. Bangladeshi students who graduated from the Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or related subjects can apply for the graduate programme at the Department of Civil and Environmeal Engineering of UCLA. The minimum requirement of CGPA is 3.00 out of scale 4.00. TOEFL (iBT) should be higher than 87. IELTS score is also acceptable; at least Band 7.0 is required.
Generally, GRE score is not mentioned on the website but it would be nice if you have a GRE (Revised) score of 318 (Verbal: 161, Quantitative: 157) and an Analytical Writing score of 5. But, if your score is around 310 then I recommend you to apply. Actually, admission depends on the scores of GRE of the applicants.
I know one student who got chance at the graduate program in North Carolina State University. His score is mentioned here for the better understand of admission scenario in the USA. TOEFL and GRE scores were like followings-- TOEFL-iBT: 90 (Reading: 23, Speaking: 23, Listening: 23, Writing: 21), GRE: 311 (Verbal: 154, Quantitative: 157), and Analytical writing: 3.
Another student was admitted in the graduate programme at Texas Tech University. His TOEFL and GRE scores were as follows: TOEFL-iBT: 92 (Reading: 25, Speaking: 20, Listening: 24, Writing: 23), GRE (Verbal: 151, Quantitative: 161), and Analytical writing: 2.5.
It is to be mentioned here that if you can get admitted in the graduate programme at the world's top notch University, UCLA, then you will get a handsome stipend and the amount is around 2 thousand US dollars per month.
