MYMENSINGH, Mar 1: The intern doctors of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday.
Confirming the matter President of Intern Doctors' Association at MMCH Dr Abu Bakar Siddique said some 15 outsiders entered into the Ward no-13 of the hospital around 3:30pm and assaulted on-duty Dr Mazhar at the ward over previous enmity.
Following the incident, the intern doctors kept the hospital's emergency department gate under lock and key, sources concerned said.
The interns, later, unlocked the gate only for the critical patients following the intervention of MMCH authority and Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Mymensingh unit leaders.
Protesting the incident, the interns brought out a procession on the hospital premises demanding immediate arrest and punishment for the attackers.
Contacted, Secretary of BMA Mymensingh unit Dr Motiur Rahman Bhuiyan said, "We will sit with the hospital authorities and administration to minimize the matter."
A case was lodged with Kotwali Police Station but none was arrested.
