Awami League has instructed its grassroots level units to send the lists of party candidates in the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) polls to the central committee within February 15.
A press release of Awami League (AL) on Friday said that instruction has already been given to the party election board constituted with presidents and general secretaries of district, upazila and union units of AL to finalise the party candidates and send the lists to the political office of party president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
It was also mentioned in the press release that the list should contain the names of the candidates (voter number 12-digit) along with all the information relating to election laws, policies and rules of the candidates. It's mandatory to send photocopies of the (voter) identity cards of the candidates.
Instruction has already been given that the party's election board would be constituted with presidents and general secretaries of district and upazila unit AL and presidents and general secretaries of the union AL, where UP polls are being held. In a joint meeting between union AL committee and leaders of ward AL committee will recommend a lone candidate of the party in each of the UP for the poll.
The recommended names of the party candidates finalised by the election board comprising district, upazila and union AL presidents and general secretaries (with names of six and their signatures) should be sent to the political office of AL president Sheikh Hasina within February 15.
In the case of giving party nomination in the local bodies' polls, the Awami League Central Working Committee-nominated chairmen of the local bodies' and UP nomination board will finalise the party candidates and allocate their polls symbol, the press release added.
