A Dhaka Court on Thursday ordered Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station to conduct an investigation into an allegation of sedition and defamation charge brought against English daily, the Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam after taking permission from the government.
Another two defamation cases were also filed by local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Cox's Bazar and Gopalganj respectively.
In Dhaka, Mostafizur Rahman, a junior lawyer of Dhaka Court, filed a complaint of sedition allegation flouting the proper forum of bringing  sedition charges with the sanction of the government under Section 123(A) and 124(A) of the Penal Code.
However Dhaka Metropolitan Public prosecutor Abdullah Abu who looks after the government interest as well as Awami League regarding cases in the lower court told the daily Observer that he did not know anything about the case and also told that a lawyer should know how to file a sedition case.
On February 3, Anam admitted publishing unsubstantiated news supplied by DGFI during the 2007-2008 caretaker regime at a television talk show.
After recoding the statement of the complainant Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarti passed the above order.
Besides those on February 9, two separate defamation cases were filed against Anam at courts in Khulna and Lakshmipur respectively.
