Cox's Bazar: Freedom Fighter Shamsher Alam Chowdhury, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died at a clinic in Chittagong early Wednesday. He was 95.
Samsher Alam breathed his last around 3:30am at Surgiscope Hospital Ltd in Chittagong city.
He is survived by wife, six sons, three daughters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
He was the chairman of Ratnapalang Union Parishad in Ukhiya upazila from 1962 to 1988.
Samsher was also a member of Chittagong Zilla Parishad.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Shamsher Alam Chowdhury, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Recalling Chowdhury's invaluable contribution to the War of Liberation in 1971, the Premier said the Awami League has lost a dedicated soldier of Bangabandhu's ideology, while the people of Cox's Bazar have lost a guardian in his death.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
