GAIBANDHA, Jan 21: Inclusive sports competition-2016 for the children with disability including the normal kids was held on Islamia High School ground of the town here on Thursday.
Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) arranged the sports under Inclusive Protection and Empowerment project for children with disabilities funded by Save the Children and European Union.
An inaugural function was also held on the premises of the school this morning around 10:00am at the arrangement of CDD.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) M. Shamsul Azam addressed the function as the chief guest and disability affairs officer of Integrated Disability Services Centre Mehedi Hasan was present as the special guest.
With head teacher (HT) of the school Ehsanul Kabir in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by associate coordinator of CDD Gopal Chandra Saha, district coordinator Himangshu Dutta Roy, and HT of Autism and Intellectual Disability School M. Idris Ali.
Additional deputy commissioner M. Shamsul Azam said as the children with disabilities are the integral part of the society, all sorts of facilities and co-curricular activities should be ensured for them.
He also thanked the CDD for arranging the sports competition for the children with disabilities aimed at flourishing their merits like the normal children.
Later, he formally inaugurated the sports competition as the chief guest. In the afternoon, the prizes were distributed to the winners and consolation prizes to all the participants.
A total of 100 kids including 70 children with disability coming from six upazilas of the district took part in the competition at 13 events spontaneously.
A number of guardians, caregivers, and NGO activists including journalists were present on the occasion.
