Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina has urged people to vote for her party, the Awami League, at the upcoming union council elections.

She made the appeal while addressing a public meeting at the Sylhet Alia Madrasa ground on Thursday afternoon.

“You have got independence and are experiencing development at present, as you had voted for the ‘boat’ (Awami League’s symbol). So, never forget the ‘boat’,” the Awami League President told the gathering.

“The boat will bring you peace, progress and development,” she added.

The prime minister shed light on the development programmes undertaken in Sylhet by the Awami League government and held out the assurance that more uplift schemes were being planned.

She said, “I wish to tell the people of Sylhet that you will not have to demand anything from me. I am visiting every nook and corner of Bangladesh. I know the problems of this country.”

“I also know how the problems can be solved and development achieved. And we are working on that,” she added.

Hasina asked the audience if they had confidence in the government, and they roared, ‘yes’.
