The government has directed authorities of private schools, colleges and other educational institutions not to collect enhanced tuition fees this year.
The Ministry of Education on Sunday instructed the private educational institutions across the country including Dhaka city to comply with the directives until further notice.
The Ministry on Sunday issued an office order in this connection. At the same time, it has sent letters to all the educational institutions conveying the government decision.
The circular was issued after getting allegations from different quarters that a large number private educational institution has increased tuition and other fees this year.
"A section of private educational institutions have been realising extra amount as fees from the students without any instruction from the Ministry. The unilateral decision of the educational institutions has impacted negatively a large section of the guardians," it added.
It also said the Ministry will take necessary measures soon to decide on the hike in tuition fees considering the overall situation.
According to the provisions, the authorities concerned of the private educational institutions can increase the fees only in accordance with the directives of the government.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) also ordered the private educational institutions not to collect additional fees from the students until further notice.
DSHE DG Fahima Khatun told reporters the DSHE will take necessary actions against those institutions that will violate the instructions. The DSHE will act promptly in this connection.
