7 hurt in attack on Jessore JL leader's house

JESSORE, Jan 14: Seven people were injured as miscreants attacked house of a local Juba League (JL) leader at Shikda village in Sharsha upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The injured were identified as Sharsha union unit JL General Secretary Rezaul Islam, 38, his wife Aziman Nesa, 30, sister Joytsna Akter, 25, Sakhina Khatun, 45, Abdul Khaleq, 30, Milon Hossain, 28, and Hafizur Rahman, 35.
Rezaul said he had a row with some influential people as they had collected toll from some local people.
They extorted Tk7 lakh from many people of the area a few days ago, Rezaul added.
He protested the matter and informed it to a number of villagers which angered the extortionists.
On Wednesday night, a group of miscreants numbering 40-50 suddenly attacked the house of Rezaul.
The hoodlums swooped down on Rezaul, his family members and neighbours, leaving seven people injured.
Officer-in-Charge of Sharsha Police Station Maniruzzaman confirmed the incident.     ?UNB
