NOAKHALI, Jan 14: The main road leading to the district town are totally occupied by the businessmen of  brisk, sand and stone.
More than 40 piles of construction materials can be found  here and there  on the way from Maizdi Bazaar to Gabua suburb. The remaining portion of the main road has been grabbed by the unauthorised occupants dealing with the construction businesses.
During a  visit to the areas, this correspondent  found how the grabbers took possession of the public road in an  unauthorised way, creating lots of inconvenience to hundreds of different district and inter-district vehicles and thousands of pedestrians. Devoid of any civic sense, the labourers of the contractors and businessmen are continuing their unauthorised possession of the public road.  The occupants are hardly paying any heed to suffering and inconvenience caused to the public, locals complained.
Locals in the respective areas raised complaints saying that the grabbers, mainly sand  suppliers, are indulged in this sort of worst practices for unauthorised occupancy in meeting their interest years after years, jeopardising the interest of the public.
Locals while expressing  their agony mentioned that with the backing of influential people the businessmen are involved in such practices.
Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways here, when asked, said, "Just now I got the complaint and will take necessary action after inquiry".
