Nepal National Football Team, the Gurkhas, kept their hope to secure the semi-finals of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup-2016 after winning the Wednesday's first match against Sri Lanka by 1-0 margin at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Striker Bimal Gharti Magar scored the match winning goal for the Nepalese in the very fourth minute of the match. Nepal Defender Rabin Shrestha entered the box from the left side before passing the ball back to Bimal and the striker tapped it to the post to put the team ahead. Yet the Lankans Lions had a chance to level the margin if their striker LH Kavindu Ihsan could hit the net in the 25th minute, his shot went over the post. In the second half, the winners were near to double the lead in 58th minute when their midfielder Heman Gurung curved a right footer toward the post but the ball dashed over the crosspiece. The Gurkhas collected four points following the win in their second match while the Lankans were languishing at the bottom line with no point from two matches.
