The Cabinet on Monday approved the National Hajj and Umrah Policy and Hajj Packages, 2016.
According to the Cabinet decision, there will be two packages under the government management in which Tk360,028 was fixed under package-1 as Hajj fee including Qurbani (sacrificial ritual). In the package-2, Tk304,903 was fixed as Hajj fee excluding Qurbani fee.
With this approval of the Cabinet, a pilgrim will have to pay maximum Tk360,000 for performing Hajj under government management.
The private hajj agencies will be allowed to take Hajj fees from the pilgrims similar to the highest amount.
The approval was given in the regular Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters that the amounts were fixed while approving the drafts of National Hajj and Umrah Policy and Hajj Packages 2016.
A total of 113,868 Bangladeshi pilgrims will be allowed to go to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj this year. Of them, 5,000 pilgrims will go under government management and 108,868 under private management, the Cabinet Secretary said.
He also said Tk155,441.68 was fixed this year as basic expenditure for the private management category against Tk148,331 in 2015.
This year every pilgrim must register online and they will be given pilgrim identification card by the Saudi government.
The Cabinet also discussed issues of some irregularities on luggage handling during the last Hajj by the airlines concerned and asked relevant authorities to strictly look into the issue to check any mishandling in the future, the Cabinet Secretary said, adding that the Civil Aviation Minister assured the meeting of looking into the matter seriously.
