Huge saris, medicines seized at Dhaka airport

A customs preventive team seized huge amounts of contraband saris and illegal medicines worth Tk 2 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here on Sunday.

A passenger, M Faisal Haq, 29, of Madaripur was also arrested in connection with the medicine recovery.

Assistant commissioner (Customs) Shahiduzzaman Sarker said Faisal landed at the airport around 6:15pm from Bangkok by the flight ‘RX 787’.

The customs preventive team challenged Faisal and found the illegal medicines of 36 kinds searching his two big luggage while he was crossing the customs lounge.

Earlier, the team seized huge amounts of contraband Indian saris from the customs lounge area around 3pm.

The saris came to the airport by the flight of Regent Airways ‘RX 972’ from Kolkata of India around 3pm.
