GAIBANDHA, Jan 7: Speakers at a function here on Thursday urged the union parishad (UP) secretaries to work sincerely in implementing the projects properly at their respective unions of the district all the year round.
They also expressed their views that the UP secretaries as the staff of the local government have the responsibility to make the projects and other official works successful at grassroots level to lead the country towards desired development.
The opinion came at the concluding ceremony of two-day training for the UP secretaries on economical management, records preservation, and schemes implementation at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here this afternoon.
Local government section of the DC office arranged the training under local government support project (LGSP-2).
DC M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as chief guest while deputy director of local government section M. Moklesur Rahman was the moderator.
DC M. Abdus Samad, in his speech, asked the UP secretaries to discharge their official duties with transparency and accountability to attain the cherished goal of the local government.
The DC also sought whole-hearted cooperation of the UP secretaries to help the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.
All the 82 UP secretaries of seven upazilas in the district took part in the training.
