MYMENSINGH,  Jan 7: A 19-year old girl was raped allegedly by a driver of a local bus at Nandail Chourasta area on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Nandail upazila of the district in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police arrested the driver identified as Alamgir Hossain, 25, son of late Jushash Uddin of Pumbail in Gouripur upazila here.
Quoting victim and local sources, Md Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station (PS), said, the girl hailing from Ishwarganj upazila got up into a Kishoreganj-bound bus from Mymensingh around 2pm on Tuesday to visit her brother, a sweater worker in Narsingdi district.
The driver of the bus tactfully suspended his trip to Kishoreganj at Nandail Chourasta, said the OC.
In the evening, the driver and two other staff-members of the bus- helper Shah Jalal and its conductor Mosharaf Hossain, told the girl that they would help her to get up her into a bus on Wednesday morning and told her to have a sleep inside the  vehicle.
Believing them, the girl went to sleep inside the bus.
But at around 12:30am, Alamgir went into the bus and forcibly raped the girl. Bus helper Shah Jalal and its conductor Mosharaf Hossain helped Alamgir commit the heinous act, said the OC quoting the victim as saying.
Hearing the scram of the victim, local people rushed to the spot and caught Alamgir red-handed and handed him over to police immediately.
However, Shah Jalal and Mosharraf fled the scene. Police drives are on to arrest the two associates of Alamgir, the OC added.
A case has been lodged with Nandail PS in this regard.
The arrested driver was produced before a court on Wednesday with a seven-day remand prayer. But the remand prayer was not heard on the day, and the court sent him to jail.
