Ganajagaran Mancha on Wednesday erupted in cheers on hearing the Appellate Division of Supreme Court's order that upheld the death sentence for Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) earlier awarded capital punishment to Nizami for his crimes against humanity during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
Mancha activists brought out a procession at Shahbag intersection after the highest court's verdict.
Speakers at the procession said Wednesday's ruling was a slap in the face to those who had made Nizami a Minister.
The Jamaat Ameer had served as Agriculture Minister till 2003 and thereafter as Industries Minister till 2006 during the last BNP-led government.
"This verdict is a befitting reply to those politicians who had given these Razakars (collaborators) opportunity to flaunt the national flag on their car," Mancha Spokesperson Imran H Sarkar told the rally.
In its 2014 verdict on Nizami's trial, the tribunal had made a similar observation.
"The apex court's verdict has brought relief to the people. We demand quick implementation of the verdict," said Sarkar.
